GRAND FORKS - Grand Forks Air Force Base will host the Thunderbirds and a host of other aerial artists this week at the free Northern Thunder Air and Space Showcase.
Thunderbirds fly the Air Force's flagship multi-role fighter jet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, to perform stunts and daring maneuvers at high speeds for crowds of thousands at air shows each year. The band will last about an hour on Saturday.
Although the actual air show is on Saturday, there will be a limited event on Friday for people with Aadhaar access. Getting the Thunderbirds to headline the show has been in the works for so long, Dorazio said, that the organization submitted a permit application to perform two years ago. In fact, the Thunderbirds are already receiving orders for the 2024 airshow.

"I met the same fate as everything else in 2020," Dorazio said. “So we were fortunate enough to have Thunderbirds back on our schedule and event planning for this year.”
There will be some stands at the airshow, Dorazio said, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, towels and umbrellas. He also recommended people see early and bring sunscreen and earplugs.
"We recommend that everyone come at nine (in the morning)," Dorazio said. “It will take a while to get everyone to the base and stand, and then get the bus to the spot for those who can’t walk down the ramp.”

Allowed items include small carry-on bags, empty bags, sealed water bottles, baby formula, and first aid kits.
